গুল্লু রিকশায় উঠলেই অবধারিতভাবে রিকশাওয়ালার সাথে ভাব জমিয়ে ফেলে। আসলে সে তৃণমূল ভূখানাঙ্গা মানুষদের বাস্তব জীবন সম্পর্কে জানতে চায়, বুঝতে চায়। আজ যে রিকশাওয়ালার রিকশায় উঠেছে সে নিতান্ত কৈশোর উত্তীর্ণ তরুণ। বয়স কতই বা হবে – ১৭/১৮? এসব ছেলেদের কাজ করতে দেখলেই মমতায় বুকটা ভরে যায় তার। জানতে ইচ্ছে করে কেন সে এ বয়সে পড়াশোনা না করে রিকশা টানছে! গুল্লু তার স্বভাবমত প্রথমেই ভাব জমানোর চেষ্টা করে-

গুল্লু: কি মিয়া! আইজকার গরম দেখছো!

রিকশা ওয়ালা: জ্বি! ভ্যাপসা গরম!

আঞ্চলিক বাংলার উত্তরে রিকশাওয়ালার মুখে প্রমিত বাংলা শুনে গুল্লু একটু লজ্জা পেল।মনের ভাবটা গোপন করে শু্দ্ধ বাংলায় পরক্ষণেই বলল-‘তোমার নাম কী? পড়াশোনা কর?’

‘আরিফ হোসেন। ইন্টারমেডিয়েট সেকেন্ড ইয়ার-এ পড়ি।’

’তা আরিফ সাহেব, ‍তুমি কেনো এই রিক্সা চালানোতে এসে পড়লে?’

একটা দীর্ঘশ্বাস চেপে আরিফ বললো – ‘বাবা রিক্সা চালায়। ওনার আয়ে মোটামুটি চলে যাচ্ছিল। কিন্তু করোনার সময়ে আয়-রোজগার কমে যায়। সংসার আর চলছিল না। তাই বাধ্য হয়ে….’

’হু…ম!’ বলেই গুল্লু একেবারে চুপ মেরে গেল। কথা বলতে আর ভালো লাগছিল না।

তা আরিফ সাহেব, ‍তুমি কেনো এই রিক্সা চালানোতে এসে পড়লে?

= তুমি কেনো রিক্সা চালানোর মত কাজে জুটলে/যুক্ত হলে?

= তুমি কেনো এই রিক্সা চালানোর কাজে ঢুকলে?
